Full Company Assist on Congoleum Box Alarm
Tuesday, July 15, 2008
-
Just after 6pm, The Marcus Hook-Trainer Box Assignment was struck to Congoleum on Ridge Rd for the Building Fire. Responding units were being advised of possible pallets on fire in a building. Rescue 39(Fuller Sr.), 40-1(Fuller Jr.), and Ladder 68(J.Smith) arrived simultaneously and began to access the situation. Rescue 39 and Ladder 68 set up in the front of the Building, while 40-1 took the hydrant assignment. Deputy 68(Smith) took the Congoleum, while 39-9(Fuller Sr.) took operations. A crew was sent to the top of the furnice to get a better overview of what was burning and how to access it. Once the crew got to the top, Deputy 40(Fuller Jr.) advised of a large amount of ceramic product that was burning on top of the Rico furnace. Crews down below started to use a pulley system to send up hand tools, shovels, salvage buckets, and Water extinguishers to start removal of the product to get to the fire. After 30 minutes, Deputy 40 advised that fresh crews were going to be needed because of the high heat from the furnace and the burning product. Deputy 40 also advised Command, that it would be more accessible to have Tower 61 set up in the front of the furnace to have more access for off loading of the product. Operations also advised Command that more manpower would be needed, so Command re-dispatched for additional manpower. Crews worked for about 2 more hours until the product was finally moved and the fire was extinguished. Good Job to all the Crews that worked well together to get the product removed. Around 8pm, Deputy 68 terminated the Congoleum Command and placed everyone available after they wrapped up. We would like to Thank Rescue 72(Aston Beechwood) for providing Rescue Coverage to Upper Chichester and Lower Chichester Township. While on the cover, they handled yet another Pedestrian Struck. This time in front of the Meetinghouse Apartments.
